NEWS: Disney Hit with Lawsuit Over Failed Company Move to Florida

Back in 2021, Disney purchased land in the Lake Nona area of Orlando to build a campus that would relocate thousands of Disney employees to Central Florida.

They later announced that this plan was delayed as of June 2022 and the move was again delayed for over 3 years — before the official announcement was made pulling the plug on the project in May 2023. But that wasn’t before some Disney employees uprooted their lives and families at the request of the House of Mouse, and now, they’ve filed a lawsuit against the company for just that.

In May 2023, Disney announced that a $1 billion project the company planned for the Lake Nona area of Orlando was canceled.

Disney recently made a HUGE announcement about a $1 billion project it had planned for the Lake Nona area of Orlando.

In 2021, Disney purchased around 60 acres of land in Lake Nona, calling it a “regional campus” for thousands of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products team members (some would even relocate from California to Florida). The timeline for the project was extended, but then Disney announced it would not move forward with that project. So what’s going to happen to all that land the company purchased? Well, we have SOME idea.

Disney Cancels Billion-Dollar Project in Orlando

Disney has just announced a major update on a BILLION dollar construction project it had planned for the Orlando area.

Some time ago, Disney announced plans for a new campus in Lake Nona, a suburb of Orlando, FL. It was expected that the project could cost $1.3 billion to build (according to the Orlando Business Journal) and it was set to become home to a “regional campus” for THOUSANDS of Disney employees (some would relocate from California to Florida). The timeline for the project had been extended previously but now it’s hit a major stopping point.

Disney’s Employee Relocation To Florida Takes Big Step Forward

Theme parks are getting updated, Disney+ was launched back in 2019, and leadership has switched back and forth a few times. But one of the biggest changes coming for the company is that they’re moving 2000 jobs from California to Central Florida.
