Ride closures happen in Disney World occasionally, whether for scheduled maintenance, bad weather, or unknown issues.
Tower of Terror temporarily closed
Expedition Everest is currently undergoing a lengthy refurbishment in Animal Kingdom and won’t be reopening until April. Splash Mountain has also been closed as scheduled maintenance is performed. It shut down in early January and is supposed to be reopening today, but the status of the ride is up in the air.
Before you head to Disney World, there’s one big thing you should do that a lot of people forget about — checking the list of refurbishments!
It’s very quiet over here right now!
Throughout the year, various Disney attractions will close briefly to get routine maintenance. Sometimes those refurbishments are short, only lasting a week or so, while other times they may stretch on for months or even years (we’re looking at you, Walt Disney World Railroad!). Right now, Expedition Everest is in the middle of a three-month refurb, and we noticed some changes at the ride today!

Some of these rides are classics, lasting for more than 50 years, while others are brand-new, drawing in guests to see what the hype is all about. The rides are perhaps the biggest draw for guests to come to Disney World, but some of them are a little weird…if you really think about it. In the past, we’ve seen holiday overlays at Tomorrowland Speedway, Jungle Cruise (AKA Jingle Cruise), Space Mountain, Mad Tea Party, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, and beyond. While we’ve already seen holiday decorations sweep across the parks, it looks like one of our first attraction overlays is in progress too!

The preshows set up the events for the ride and often contain some quote-worthy scripts and one-liners. Many of them have massive fanbases filled with people who can quote them from beginning to end. And recently, a popular pre-show character finally made his way to Disney World!

On our walk around the park today, we noticed that not all the rides were up and running. Rides can close for a variety of reasons in Disney World, including technical difficulties, safety concerns, and bad weather. One BIG ride has been shut down all day in the Magic Kingdom.
