Last month, the lineup of eateries coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland (opening on May 31, 2019) and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios (opening August 29, 2019) was revealed. Newly announced dining options included Ronto Roasters, the Milk Stand, and Kat Saka’s Kettle. And previously, we put the spotlight on the fast-casual spot, Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo.

Galaxy’s Edge: Black Spire

With news dropping that Walt Disney World’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be opening sooner than expected in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney Parks fans were left wondering: How will the August 29th grand opening of Galaxy’s Edge impact Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival, which historically begins the last week of August?

Food and Wine typically opens in late-August, and crowds descend upon World Showcase immediately. In fact, opening weekend and closing weekend tend to be the busiest times for Food and Wine. With dates for Food and Wine still unannounced, it’s unclear whether the Festival will open before the gates of Black Spire Outpost in Galaxy’s Edge. Our preliminary research and hotel bookings indicate that Food and Wine will likely start no later than early September and may well begin even earlier (mid-August or the last week of August). As the transformation of Disney’s Hollywood Studios progresses with last year’s opening of Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening on August 29, 2019, there are other changes surrounding the park in anticipation of greater crowd levels.

In case you haven’t heard 😉 , opening dates have been announced for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland (May 31, 2019) AND in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios (August 29, 2019). So… how do such high levels of anticipation (to put it mildly) affect the logistics of opening?
Let’s talk about it…
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in TWO phases in Disneyland
. The first — beginning, of course, on May 31st — will welcome guests to the Planet Batuu to experience elements of the land including one of the two attractions — Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
The second phase, to take place “late this year,” will see the opening of the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction. According to Disney, “In light of tremendous demand, Disney made the decision to open the land in phases to allow guests to sooner enjoy the one-of-a-kind experiences that make Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so spectacular.” [Read more…]
