For those of us braving the wintry weather in most of the country, there are some new cozy comfort foods at Earl of Sandwich that may make us all feel better!

Check out these Earl of Sandwich Winter Time Specials, available for a limited time only.

We tried the macaroni and cheese, which was medium in size and was a sharable snack between two.

As a connoisseur of great Walt Disney World macaroni and cheese (my favorite being the Truffle Mac & Cheese from Yachtsman Steakhouse) I will say that this wasn’t the best mac ‘n’ cheese. But I can easily see it being a favorite with children.

Dining in Disneyland Review: The Earl has Finally Arrived!

 With an original opening date scheduled early last Summer, Southern California sandwich lovers have been abuzz about the new Earl of Sandwich restaurant not opening their doors on time.

I am ecstatic to announce that the doors have been opened and those lovely golden bricks have been flying through that little toasty oven faster than you can say “Holiday Turkey Sandwich, please!”

Atmosphere

Located directly next to the AMC Theater Complex across from The Rainforest Cafe, the Earl of Sandwich has replaced the Compass Cafe and Bookstore.

And although the bookstore was fun to browse and the cafe sold Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, I’d much prefer a sandwich from Earl any day. Last week the doors soft opened with a 25% discount on all menu items, and then “officially” opened this past Friday. I snuck over Thursday to get my fix.

The soft opening was no secret, and with the entire menu being 25% off I expected there to be a pretty substantial line. And I was correct.

When my boys saw the line they about had a panic attack because A: It was already 1:00 and they were beyond ready to eat lunch and B: They had never been to an Earl of Sandwich, so they had no idea how quickly the line moves. After visiting the Orlando and Vegas locations, I was fully aware of how well-oiled this sandwich making machine was.

I assured them that we’d move quickly and that it would be well worth the wait. I also bribed them and told them they could pick whichever dessert they wanted…

Hallelujah!

Disney Strawberry Shortcake Desserts

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE! Anyone who’s been to Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness knows how historic this dessert is at Walt Disney World!

And, luckily, there are several versions to sample around the parks and resorts! Let’s take a peek at a few that we enjoy…

Strawberry Shortcake at Sunshine Seasons

Nestled on the lower level of the Land pavilion in Epcot, Sunshine Seasons is known for market-fresh eats.

One of the best desserts at Epcot (and also a great value) is the strawberry shortcake. Fresh strawberries, smooth whipped cream and gorgeous vanilla shortcake are layered together for a fresh and decadent treat.

Ode to Disney Dessert Sandwiches

You know we like to follow the Disney food trends here on Disney Food Blog, and one that we’re noticing more and more are the “dessert sandwiches” that keep popping up.

Of course, Disney has seemingly always offered the beloved Carrot Cake Cookie and Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich, and now there are a few more options. Let’s take a look at some old and new favorites!

Whoopie pies

Whoopie pies (cake-like cookie sandwiches with frosting or whipped cream in the middle — borne out of the Northeastern United States) are a huge trend nationwide; and over at Sunshine Seasons in The Land, they’ve introduced a red velvet whoopie pie with your favorite mouse right on top!

The frosting inside is buttercream, not cream cheese, but we’re pretty happy with it either way!

Decked out in chocolate chips, this is a great one to try while you’re waiting for your Soarin’ fastpass to open up!

And at the Boardwalk Resort, Flying Fish Cafe offers a Trio of Concessions Sweets aptly named “Out on the Boardwalk”. A highlight of this dish is the Peanut Butter-Chocolate-Marshmallow “Moon Pie”.

The pound cake “fries” have strawberry “ketchup” to add to the look-alike whoopie pie “burger”. It’s an innovative boardwalk dessert…and delicious!

Review: More Earl of Sandwich Brownie Creme Sandwiches

So, with the great news about Earl of Sandwich coming to Disneyland, I thought I’d do a little review about some new (to me) Earl desserts I tried at the Orlando Downtown Disney location a couple of months ago!

First, let’s start with a quick look back. When I first found what I call the “browning frosting sandwich” on a past visit to Earl of Sandwich, I was floored.

This was not only the best brownie I’d ever had; it was also some pretty reliable frosting, which is hard to find when you’re a frosting snob like I am!!

So I was pretty excited when I realized that not only do they have the vanilla frosting version of this giant dessert — they also have…wait for it…PEANUT BUTTER!!!! AND CHOCOLATE!!!! versions of it! I had to give them a try, too, of course, and here’s the review!

Earl of Sandwich Peanut Butter Brownie Creme Sandwich

You never know what you’re going to get with a peanut butter dessert. Will it be more like a “peanut butter meets sugar and heavy cream” kind of whipped fiasco, or will it be more like a Reese’s peanut butter cup — sweet, but substantial?

In this case, I’d definitely say it’s more the latter. The peanut butter “frosting” here is less of a frosting and more of a filling.

Disneyland Earl of Sandwich Official! Opening Early Summer 2012

We were excited about the rumor last month that Earl of Sandwich was coming to Disneyland…and now it’s official!!

Disneyland announced today that our favorite Orlando sandwich shop will open a new location in Downtown Disney in early Summer 2012.

“We pride ourselves in giving our guests a unique experience at Downtown Disney through different retail and food offerings,” said Tony Bruno, vice president of Resort Hotels and Downtown Disney. “This will be the only Earl of Sandwich in California and it is sure to be a favorite among our guests as it has been at Walt Disney World for nearly eight years.”
