Disney’s streaming services have undergone some HUGE changes recently.

For example, you can now stream Hulu on Disney+. Disney has also started warning customers about sharing passwords, promising it had plans to crack down on account sharing soon. Language about account sharing has also appeared in the terms of service for both Disney+ and Hulu. Well, now we know when Disney will start officially canceling accounts it thinks are being shared.
Since being fired from The Walt Disney Company in late 2022, former CEO Bob Chapek has largely kept quiet.

Aside from announcing his new position on Masimo’s Board of Directors, Chapek has been silent — especially when it comes to Disney. But, that has officially changed. In a new interview, Chapek revealed his thoughts on the future of Disney-owned ESPN, and it sounds like he doesn’t fully agree with Iger’s choices.

During the company’s Q1 2024 earnings call, we learned how Disney Parks (and other experiences) were doing financially. We also learned how Disney’s streaming services were doing, including learning that Disney+ recently lost subscribers. Just before the earnings call, Disney announced a huge sports streaming partnership between ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery to create a NEW mega sports streaming service. However, there’s a chance that partnership may not be allowed to happen.

We’ve recently learned even more about Disney’s BIG plans for its streaming services.

First, the company has teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery to bring ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery sports coverage into one streaming service. And although Disney+ seems to have lost some subscribers, its average monthly revenue per paid subscriber increased by 9% domestically. Overall, the company seems to be very confident about one of its major goals (and CEO Bob Iger’s #1 priority): to have streaming become profitable in 2024 (yep, this year).

Well, one cable group is now calling for the Justice Department to review that alliance and service.
