Fantasmic! Is BACKÂ in Disneyland!

After being on hiatus for over a year due to a forced refurbishment caused by the fire that took down the show’s iconic dragon animatronic back in April of 2023, Fantasmic! has FINALLY returned to Disneyland…and WE GOT TO SEE IT.
It’s official — Fantasmic! will be returning to Disneyland in 2024!

You can catch this show currently in Disney World, but after an unexpected fire destroyed the Maleficent dragon animatronic in Disneyland, the show has been indefinitely closed while they revamp the design. Now that it’s been announced the show is returning, remember that these two things will be very different when the show returns.

Hollywood Studios is a great park for entertainment, with shows like Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage and the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. One of the most popular shows in this park is Fantasmic!, which takes place every evening. On April 22nd of this year, there was an incident during Disneyland’s Fantasmic! performance. The fire-breathing Maleficent dragon animatronic unexpectedly caught on fire, causing the show to end early.

Shows paused after the incident (luckily, no one was hurt and the fire department responded quickly to the scene), and an update appeared on Fantasmic!’s webpage, stating that, “With the goal of delivering the best possible show for our guests, performances of Fantasmic! are paused through at least Labor Day.” Now, we finally have an update on WHEN Fantasmic! will resume and how it will be different once it returns. Fantasmic! is back!
Fantasmic! has been closed since the parks shut down in March of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve been watching construction from a bird’s eye view on the stage for a while now, and Disney teased its return a few times. As of November 3rd, the show is back in the parks, and we were invited to a media event to check out the show a day early — let’s see what has changed!
