We clearly never listened to our moms telling us to stop playing with our food! You eat with your eyes first, so we’ve always strived to give you the best pictures of foods around Disney World. It should come as no surprise to you that the DFB team loves photography. We take thousands of photos every year, and we honestly relish every one. So generating a list of the DFB’s Most Wow-Worthy Pictures This Year was an impossible task. But we buckled down and found a few we wanted to share with you once more!
We had a blast celebrating Mickey’s 90th birthday in November
, and you know that all those specialty eats had us pretty excited. But when we saw the size of the Giant Mickey Birthday Krispy we knew it needed lots of photographic love. We like how this picture captures the breadth of this huge krispy treat — not an easy feat in a World of oversized, fantastical things!

Plus there’s lovely sunlight bouncing off that smooth chocolate. Love!
Disney Food Blog contributor Megan Dorsey offered a few food photography tips she’d learned from taking pics on a recent trip, and I thought it’d be fun to compile a few more from some photographer friends and me! More and more folks are starting to join the weird crowd of us who take photos of everything we eat, so tips and tricks are always fun to share!
The following tips are compiled from Megan, Anna G. who writes Cookie Madness, Joe S. from Culinary in the Country, my Dad (a professional photographer), and me!:
1. Play around with camera angles: While taking photos directly above the plate looking down works well for many entrees and shows the whole plate, some foods are more impressive when seen from the side. Experiment with different angles (makes it harder to keep us, the kids, and the other table stuff out of some shots.)

2. Try to clear away the rest of the table clutter from the shot. (Hard with two kids.)

So, as many of you know, the WDW Foodie Fest official website is up and running!
I was playing around with a polaroid-maker to create pics for the site and wound up creating this “Food and Wine Festival” collage. I think it’s pretty awesome (I’m always amazed that a computer and photography neophyte like me can figure out how to do neat-o stuff like this) and wanted to share with you!
All of the pics were taken at last year’s Festival, and all of the food featured is returning for the 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival!

The Washington Post showcased these videos of the Marshmallow Peeps Diorama competition, two of which show dioramas themed to Disney movies (Winner: “Eep” — a representation of “Up.” Finalist: “The Mad Hatter’s Peep Party” — a representation of “Alice in Wonderland.)!
Three Baking Sheets to the Wind created some amazing Alice in Wonderland themed cupcakes. Just wait until you see the “Tweedledee and Tweedledum” ones… Wow.
Progress City USA has a picture of Jim MacPhee drinking Beverly. (You won’t know if it’s worth looking until it’s too late.) Also, a piece of history with Disney’s launch of French-fried ice cream.

Disney has released photos of the Walt Disney Signature dining installation in collaboration with design innovator, Cappellini, for this year’s Dining By Design DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) event in New York City.

Just returned from my first stroll around the 2009 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival! Tarps were being rolled up on the booths, food was being prepared, and merchandise was out en force. It’s shaping up to be a wonderful Festival.
In the meantime, I’ll keep adding links to my main Food and Wine Festival page; you can always look there for the latest.
Today, I’m going to share with you some of the preparations that are happening and a couple food pics that I was lucky enough to snag. Here we go!

Cape Town smelled AMAZING as I wandered by — they were putting together the seared beef tenderloin with sweet potato puree and mango BBQ sauce!
