Yesterday, we shared the news that Fun Spot’s Orlando location had reopened. And today, another attraction has joined them in reopening.
The full Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force met today to discuss and review plans submitted by several smaller Orlando attractions, including Gatorland and Fun Spot. It was at this meeting today that we also learned of Universal Orlando’s proposed soft preview reopening of June 1 for team members, with a public reopening on June 5.
But many smaller attractions are looking to open sooner than that, with some attractions hoping to welcome back guests within the coming days.
While Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings doesn’t suspect that Orlando’s major theme parks such as Disney World or Universal Studios will reopen until June at the earliest, theme parks have been working on submitting reopening plans.
In today’s meeting of the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force, the plans for three smaller Orlando theme parks were discussed by the Tourism subcommittee.
While many Florida theme parks are currently looking for the best way to open, Gatorland Orlando will be re-opening during Phase Two of Florida’s re-opening plan.
The attraction submitted its health and safety proposal to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force for consideration. Now, as the theme park moves forward in getting its park ready for guests, Gatorland released some very…interesting…videos explaining their new guidelines (and you just have to see them for yourself). Florida is currently in Phase One of the state’s reopening. As we have been following the discussions of the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force (as Orange County is home to many Orlando area attractions), a recent discussion point has revolved around potential differences for safely reopening smaller attractions versus the larger venues such as Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld (all of which remain closed until further notice).
Smaller venues include locations like Gatorland and Fun Spot America, and they operate on a different scale than the major theme parks. And now, as the state looks towards moving into Phase Two of reopening, some of the smaller attractions are hoping to be permitted to reopen in the next phase. [Read more…]
