Snack Series: Gelato Ice Cream Sandwiches in Epcot’s Italy

Happy National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, everyone! And in honor of this important day, it’s time to head back to one of my favorite spots for a frosty treat, the Tutto Italia cart in Epcot’s Italy!

I couldn’t wait to tell you guys about the Coppa Delizia sundae at this very spot a few months ago, so I wondered what other delicious treats they might have to satisfy a craving for cold and creamy on a hot Florida summer day.

Gelato Selections

I was excited to see that the menu had changed a bit, and the kiosk was now offering Gelato Cookie Sandwiches! I wondered if these would be as good as the Homemade Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches you can find throughout the parks…

You can choose from pre-made sandwiches, or you can request that your cookie treat be custom-made with your choice of gelato flavor.

First Look! Epcot’s Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar to Open in Early May

Tutto Gusto, a new wine bar

that will be adjacent to Tutto Italia Ristorante, is set to open in early May as part of the restaurant’s recent refurbishment.

We can’t wait to add this location to our Drinking Around the World itinerary!

Nestled next to Tutto Italia Ristorante in Epcot’s Italy pavilion, Tutto Gusto will feature a cozy 96-seat space located in the former lobby space and extending toward Via Napoli.

Atmosphere

The new wine bar will take over Tutto Italia’s former lobby space. Stone walls and floors, vaulted ceilings, and a fireplace will create the atmosphere of an Italian wine cellar.

The soon-to-be-hot-spot will be open to patrons from 11:30AM to 9PM to enjoy over 200 Italian wines and what sounds like an amazing selection of small plates and appetizers.

Wine Dinner Announced at La Luce, Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek

La Luce has announced their first Wine Dinner at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek resort (within the gates of Walt Disney World Resort!). We love this place for awesome risotto specials each day, killer fresh pastas and sauces, and…wait for it…the Butterscotch Pudding! No, I’m serious! Check out a review of La Luce here.

Review: Via Napoli

I realized we hadn’t reviewed Epcot’s Via Napoli for you since 2010, so it was time to head back!

Via Napoli, a Patina Group restaurant like its neighbor Tutto Italia, is our vote for the best pizza in Disney World, hands down. In fact, ever since moving to Texas from New York City, Via Napoli is the spot that’s come closest to re-creating my favorite NYC pie!

For that and several other reasons, this has quickly become one of our favorite Disney World restaurants, and we actually visit quite often; but we can’t help ourselves and always get the same thing, so there’s no reason to report on it over here! On this visit, we decided to break our own mold and order a few new items just to mix it up a bit!

Atmosphere

Via Napoli takes up the back wall of Epcot’s beautiful Italy pavilion. The imposing building was built in 2010 and soon became one of Epcot’s most-loved restaurants.

Snack Series: Coppa Delizia from Italy’s Gelato Stand in Epcot

Over the past few years, Italy has become one of my favorite countries in Epcot. They have the best pizza in Disney World, a little tiny canal to remind me of wandering around Venice, a fun mask painter, and, of course, gelato.

The little gelato stand in Italy is easy to walk by without noticing. It looks like several other plain kiosks in Epcot — the ones that sell coffee and those ubiquitous cookies and pastries (which aren’t bad, but they don’t hold a candle to what I’m about to show you).

But when you get a little closer and check out the menu, you’ll notice that you’re in for a little surprise. When I stopped by this kiosk recently, I had no intention of getting any gelato. But as soon as I saw those gelato “creations” in the middle, I knew I had no choice! It was on! You can’t call something a “creation” and think I’m gonna just walk on by! 😉

I was stuck between the Amicizia and the Delizia, but ended up going for the latter — I loved the idea of cookies and cream gelato with strawberry sauce!

Gelato Selections

This incredibly rich, shareable treat has three scoops of gelato: cookies and cream — which reminds me of one of my favorite flavors from my Italy backpacking days: stracciatella, Fior di Latte — which is a milk-flavored gelato (thanks for setting me straight on this one, J Hayes!), and strawberry!

This is all topped with a thick strawberry sauce, a pile of whipped cream, and whole strawberries! And it looks a little something like this! [Read more…]

Guest Review: Food and Wine Pairing in Epcot’s Italy

Let’s give a warm welcome to JoAnn Chiaravalle. She stops by to share a review of dining at a Food and Wine Pairing seminar, complete with great tips about how to prepare when you have a food allergy!

On August 16 at 7:00 am sharp, I called Disney to book the Italy Food and Wine Pairing set for Saturday, November 12, during the 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Within twenty minutes my booking was complete!

I was so excited to get the events booked on the first day in a short amount of time that I forgot to mention I had a seafood allergy. I called back at a later date and spoke to Melissa to have my reservation modified to show the allergy. She was most helpful and answered all of my questions.

Fast forward to November 12. The event began at 2:00 and I took my seat with notebook in hand. Although I was excited to attend this event, I was crushed when I saw the menu with seafood. I told the waitress who was pouring water about my seafood allergy and she told me not to worry as it was noted in the reservation.

Eats

Along with the menu we were each provided with cards detailing each of the wines.

Wine Cards

The manager of the restaurant and the representative from Banfi Winery welcomed us, and the festivities began. The first course was Capesante e Cannellini (scallops with cannellini beans and pancetta ham) with San Angelo Pinot Grigio.
