The wait is over. Holiday crowds have made their exit from Disney World!

We’ve seen decorations come down and new merchandise replace the festive finds on the shelves, but one of the biggest things that has changed is the crowds. Overall it felt less crowded on a day-to-day basis this week, even though Park Passes were selling out for Annual Passholders on certain days. So what does this mean for the wait times? Well, let’s just say we think you’re going to like the news!
The start of the 2024 year is bringing about lots of CHANGES to Disney World and it seems that rides are no exception.

Two Disney World rides will close THIS WEEK for LONG refurbishments! Disney occasionally has to shut down rides and attractions in order to update them, and although sometimes those closures only last a few days, this time two rides will be closed for multiple months.

Let’s check out all the temporary closures and refurbishments that will affect Disney World from January 7th through the 13th.
Ahhh…the holiday season is finally over in Disney World and you have room to breathe again in the parks, right? WRONG.
Recent crowds
Despite lower Genie+ prices, Disney World has actually gotten busier after the holidays according to the wait times! We’ve seen some astronomically high wait times this week and park passes have been selling out. Which rides should you watch out for? That’s what we’re going to look at today!
We know it’s inconvenient if you’ve booked a Disney World vacation way ahead of time and then you get there to find out your favorite ride is closed.
Animal Kingdom
Sometimes, we do get SOME notice about ride closures in advance, although some rides close temporarily due to technical issues. Refurbishment schedules are also something to consider, and some rides end up having lengthy refurbishments (aka maintenance, touching up, etc.) that could last months. Well, we’ve got an update on one such refurbishment.
Two Disney World rides will be temporarily CLOSED soon, so if you want to get one more ride in, you’ll need to get to the theme parks this week!

Disney occasionally shuts down rides and attractions in order to refresh and update them, and soon it will be time for two popular attractions to get their annual refurbishment.Â
WOW! One week can make a BIG difference in Disney World’s wait times. You may see some reasonable wait times in Magic Kingdom one day, then the next, the wait times at those same attractions SKYROCKET. What gives? Well, we’ve got two words: holiday. break.

The Disney World wait times saw a massive increase around the week of Christmas. In fact, one attraction reached a 150-minute wait! Now, let’s assess the data and see just how busy the parks really were during the holidays.
We had a feeling that several Disney rides would be closing in 2024.
Haunted Mansion
While a few attractions could be closing forever this coming year, several are just temporarily shutting down for refurbishments. Disney will do this every now and then to maintain the rides and ensure they continue to work properly. Some rides notoriously close around the same time each year, while others close more spontaneously. Since January is just right around the corner, we thought we would share with you which rides you can expect to be closing in the coming month!

Park passes have been selling out for all ticket types, several Annual Passholders are now blocked out, the multi-park and Magic Kingdom Genie+ options sold out, and (we’re not gonna sugar-coat it) the parks have felt CROWDED. That’s why we’re always warning you about this time of year in the parks — although it’s a fun place to spend the holidays, you have to prepare for these kinds of things! HIGH wait times! Hollywood Studios is jam-packed with exciting and popular attractions with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and thrill rides at the end of Sunset Boulevard. We see some of the longest wait times in ALL of Disney World at this park frequently. Slinky Dog Dash, the adorable coaster in Toy Story Land, has held the top spot when it comes to average wait times for a while…but now there’s a new winner!
