Who’s ready for some ICE CREAM???!!

Here at DFB, we live in a perpetual state of ice cream readiness. And nothing beats a visit to one of our favorite spots — Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in Magic Kingdom. In fact, we’re heading there today in our latest DFB Video!

While we enjoy all of the variety when it comes to ice cream in Walt Disney World, there are a few treats that we especially crave every time we’re at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. Who can resist a Homemade Ice Cream Sandwich drizzled with toppings!?! And their hand-scooped sundaes are classic.

OK, all! I’m so excited to share with you another monster sundae in Disney World! And you can get this in TWO places!! We’ll let you know where WE think you should buy it at the end of the post (best value!!).

Introducing: The Mickey Kitchen Sink Sundae! (Which I’d like to, from now on, refer to as the Mickey Pants Sundae.)

You can find it at both the Plaza/Main Street Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, and at Beaches and Cream in Disney’s Beach Club Resort.

We’ll look at the Magic Kingdom’s version first, then swing over to Beaches and Cream to check out their sundae!

At the Ice Cream Parlor, you’ve got three scoops of ice cream — chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry — topped with three toppings — hot fudge, strawberry, and caramel. The whole thing is covered in whipped cream, chocolate and peanut butter chips, and cherries.

Monstrous Summer Specialty Foods Available at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts

Kicking off a “Monstrous Summer” at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the creative Disney chefs have designed special eats for the Monstrous Summer all-nighter scheduled for May 24-May 25, 2013!

Mike and Sully on Spaceship Earth announce the Monstrous Summer All-Nighter!

The event, which takes place at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World on the East coast, and Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure on the West coast, will host guests from 6 a.m. on May 24 to 6 a.m. on May 25.

As always, Disney has planned a few special bites for the special event. Here are a few of the noshes planned!

Walt Disney World Monstrous Summer Food

Crazed about Disney cupcakes? The New Fantasyland venue Gaston’s Tavern (Magic Kingdom) will feature a chocolate cupcake topped with “Monsters University” sweets.

Ice cream fans can stop by the Ice Cream Parlor or Plaza Restaurant on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom for an “Eye Scream Sundae” in your choice of mint chocolate chip or strawberry flavors.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Waffles are just for breakfast. But you’d be only half right! There’s plenty of waffle-ness to be had at all hours of the day throughout Walt Disney World, believe it or not.

But since this one is definitely going to challenge your stamina, I heartily recommend you plan to cover two days with this one, and enlist the help of some able-bodied and empty-stomached friends. Sharing will be beneficial! 😉

So what are you waiting for? Grab your butter and syrup and let’s go!

Sleepy Hollow Waffle Sandwiches

We’re starting at the Magic Kingdom first, since some of our favorite waffles can be found here!

When I’m looking for a treat at Disney World’s very first park, it’s pretty hard to imagine finding anything as rockin’ as a waffle from Sleepy Hollow Refreshments. And of all the amazing choices available, the Nutella and Fresh Fruit Waffle usually wins out with me!

A fresh-from-the-iron waffle, malty and thick and still warm, is slathered with Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread. Then it’s heaped high with a mix of fresh bananas and berries. It’s big enough to share — if you want to! 😉

Looking for a more savory waffle experience? My second favorite is the Spicy Chicken Waffle, an sweet-and-spicy Asian riff on fried chicken and waffles that is nothing short of incredible. (We’ll have a full review of this one coming up soon on DFB!)

Disney Ice Cream Gallery

July is National Ice Cream Month!!!

And since Sunday was National Ice Cream Day, we’ve put together a gallery of some of our favorite chilly treats from Disney parks and resorts! (Yes, you have permission to have ice cream for breakfast.)

We know we’re not covering everything, and we’d love it if you would leave us a comment mentioning your favorite ice cream-based dessert in a Disney restaurant. Can’t wait to find out what your choices are! 🙂

So now, without further ado, here’s where to go to get some of our favorite sweet-cold treats in our favorite theme parks!

The Plaza Ice Cream Sundae

Scoops of vanilla ice cream drizzled with hot fudge is then covered in whipped cream when you order this Plaza Ice Cream Sundae. There’s not just one, but many crowning cherries on this divine treat. And that’s all before you get to the crunch of a delicious waffle bowl (if you even make it that far…we didn’t)!

Okay, it’s served in a plastic bowl, which makes it a little less decadent but the crispy waffle bowl will make up for the lack of glassware. Got spare time while waiting curb-side for the parade? Grab one of these little beauties before staking out your piece of pavement! (Or, better yet, let someone else stake it out for you, then head over to the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor to snag one of your own.)

Dole Whip Float

This is practically a food staple at WDW. Hey, it’s a daily fruit serving, right?! The Dole Whip float is soft serve treat with pineapple juice and should be on your Magic Kingdom touring plan.

No visit to Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom is complete without a Dole Whip. Before your flight on Aladdin’s Magic Carpets, sit for a spell and give your taste buds a sensational journey!

Any one of these ice cream parlors can provide bigger-than-life sundaes and ice cream concoctions full of chocolate, butterscotch, peanut butter, butter pecan, candy bars, strawberries, mint chocolate chip, sorbet, hot fudge, whipped cream, cherries, and more. One of the shops you can find on just about every “Main Street USA” in the world is an ice cream parlor, and the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in the Magic Kingdom is one of the best.

Atmosphere
Many of us have a magical memory that begins with being lured into the parlor by that delicious (and occasionally piped in) smell of fresh waffle cones! Located at the end of Main Street, just before the castle hub and right next to the Plaza Restaurant, the Ice Cream Parlor is the perfect place to get dessert after a hot dog at Casey’s Corner!

MK Renovations: Mrs. Potts’ Cupboard & Main Street Ice Cream Parlor

In keeping with the upcoming Fantasyland revamp into a forest wonderland housing princesses, mermaids, and beasts, Mrs. Potts’ Cupboard has lost her clock tower and has received a renovated thatched roof.

WDWMagic is also reporting that the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor has disappeared behind a scrim due to extensive external renovations. The parlor is currently open to guests during construction.
