News: Caribbean Beach Resort Restaurants Closing this Spring for Refurbishment

Last week we broke the exciting news about new dining updates coming to Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Now we’re learning that the upcoming construction projects mean the temporary closure of the restaurants at Caribbean Beach Resort.

Guests with reservations at Caribbean Beach Resort this spring – with arrival dates beginning around May 1 – have been receiving emails from Disney notifying them that a resort refurbishment is taking place during their stay and that Old Port Royale Food Court, Shutters, Banana Cabana Pool Bar, and the Calypso Trading Post will be closed. DFB Reader Jennifer emailed us a picture of the Tomato and Mozzarella Sandwich at Captain’s Grille. She says “… It’s served on Foccacia bread with an arugula & red onion vinaigrette. It’s served with orzo salad or French fries. … It is my favorite lunch of all time.

The bread is flavorful, soft, but crisped on the outside. The tomatoes are sweet and the fresh cheese, creamy. The arugula vinaigrette adds just enough tangy bite and brings the entire sandwich together nicely. I usually ask for extra dressing and started using it for my fries also. I thought it was a hidden gem, I should share!”

The last time DFB was here was when AJ reviewed the one-of-a-kind Monkey Cupcake! Today, it’s time to check out another unique set of Island-y goodies!

The Grab and Go area at Caribbean Beach’s Old Port Royale food court is now serving tropical-inspired breakfast pastries! Kudos to the pastry chefs here for coming up with such fun additions to the menu!

This will be the first area you encounter — to your right — when you walk into the Food Court from the parking lot area. It’s a wide open space that you can’t miss.

This area of the food court features cold sandwiches and snacks for a quick bite any time of day. (And it’s a great place to pick up your midnight snack before heading back to your room after a long day in the parks.)

Refrigerated areas offer some healthier for you snacks, too, like fruit, salads, and pre-made sammies.

But we were here to check out the unique pastries with tropical flavors!! Here we go!

As I approached the bakery case, I noticed many favorites that are standard across Disney World Resort food courts (Cheese Danish, Chocolate Croissants, and Cinnamon Rolls, among others).

But I was especially impressed to find several tropical treats to choose from. I counted eight in all: the Mango Almond Tartlet, Pineapple Turnover, Pineapple Coconut Muffin, Ginger Mango Muffin, Guava and Cheese Danish or Turnover, Mango Coconut Muffin, and the Banana Turnover. Welcome to the Islands!

I was tempted to grab what would most obviously suit my tastes: the Guava and Cheese Danish. There are few things I love more than a Cream Cheese Danish. Add to that a dollop of Guava puree and… GOOD MORNING!!

Best Disney Peanut Butter Treats

Um…is it seriously possible that I haven’t already written this post?!?

You guys know how much I lurve peanut butter and anything peanut buttery, so I’m pretty surprised I haven’t done this article yet for you. BUT, it’s time to correct that error!!

As you can imagine, this is such an epic post that it will encompass my favorite peanut butter treats in both Disney World and Disneyland. If you’ve ever needed a reason to visit one or the other of the coasts, but haven’t been able to come up with one…well, you’re welcome.

Get ready to crave!

Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie at BoardWalk Bakery

One of the newer PB treats that I’ve run across is the fantastic Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie. Find this incredible square-shaped tart at the newly renovated BoardWalk Bakery (read our complete review of the brand new space here.)

The pie has everything. Check out the combo of sweet-salty all smooshed together into a soft and crunchy texture.

Even though it’s brand new, it’s already a classic in my book.

If you haven’t made a visit to the new BoardWalk Bakery, drop what you’re doing and go. Now. (And bring me one of these.)

That filling is like nothing you’ve ever had before… . Sigh.

Peanut Butter Brownie Creme Sandwich at Earl of Sandwich

I’ve gotta admit…this is one of my favorite sandwiches at the Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney.

While the regular sammys are great here (my favorite is the Italian Sandwich), their Brownie Frosting Sandwiches (or brownie creme sandwiches as they call them) are totally where it’s at. These come in vanilla and chocolate as well as the decadent Peanut Butter Brownie Sandwich.

Two super-moist, super-fudgy brownies (with chocolate chunks in ’em, too!) envelop a thick serving of peanut butter filling. And the peanut butter here isn’t whipped or light — it’s full-on peanut-butter-cup-filling.

Nice and dense, it’s the perfect consistency to stand up to the brownie. This one is a must-try.

Ah, such an unassuming name for such a knock-em-dead treat. The Disneyland Peanut Butter Sandwich may be the perfect peanut butter and chocolate snack.

HUGE thanks to DFB readers Matt and Lenore for telling me about this — and making it imperative that I head over to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort on my last Disney World Visit!

Monkey Cupcake!

One of the treats that I couldn’t wait to sample on my recent trip to Walt Disney World was the Monkey Cupcake at Old Port Royale Food Court within Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. I’d heard it had peanut butter buttercream icing (hubba hubba!!) and a surprise inside!

You might be asking at this point: so, what makes this a “monkey cupcake?” I mean, there are no little chocolate monkeys or faces on it, like you’d find on the Elephant Cupcake at Animal Kingdom’s Kusafiri Bakery and Coffee Shop…
