Hello from the West Coast, DFBers!
We’ve been to Disneyland, Downtown Disney, and Disney California Adventure checking out everything that’s been going on and seeing what’s new! So how about some updates?
Over the years we have seen some of our favorite treats be removed from the menu and some changed to become a less exciting version of themselves.
Sometimes, however, Disney can throw us for a loop and bring back one of our old favorites and today was one of those days! To our pleasant surprise, we spotted an old favorite while walking around Disneyland today! [Read more…]

Anyone remember this beauty?
Oh, MY… how I loved the Peanut Butter Sandwich: a simple but practically perfect sweet-and-salty mix of peanut butter and graham cracker covered in a thick layer of chocolate! It used to be widely available in both Disney World and Disneyland. Then it slowly was removed from the scene in Disney World, to be found ONLY in Disneyland.
And then, the worst came to be. We got word that it was being phased out in Disneyland as well. And you ALL know the pain of having one of your favorite Disney snacks ripped mercilessly from your grip.
BUT…

Editor’s Note: The Cheshire Cake Cups have been discontinued as of late Summer 2015. We’ll update you if/when they’ll return (because there will be shouts of rejoicing.)
We’re back with another installment in The Best Thing I Ever Ate in Disney series!
Snacks are a big deal around here. Heck, we plan entire events and crawls around them! And it’s clear Disney thinks snacking is where it’s at, too. We’re seeing more and more small plates restaurants open. Spots like Tutto Gusto, Spice Road Table, and The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge cater to the grazing crowd.
Today, we’re talking about some of our favorite snacks that we enjoy nearly every time we visit Walt Disney World or Disneyland. Dig out your stretchy pants, or plan to do an extra lap on the treadmill, and let’s do this!
Who doesn’t love a ginormous cupcake? You know I’m a big fan of these edible works of art. But at the end of the day, I pretty much see them as frosting delivery systems. So you can imagine my delight when I got wind of Cake Cups at Magic Kingdom’s Cheshire Cafe!
Layers of alternating cake and frosting make a parfait-style dessert that’s hard to resist.
I know, I know. I talk about these a lot. But I figure if there’s something I NEVER miss when I’m at the Magic Kingdom, I should take every opportunity to suggest it so you don’t miss it either. 😉
Two new, equally gorgeous varieties have recently made an appearance — White Rabbit and Queen of Hearts versions! Expanding the cake cup line? We are ALL IN.
These are the closest snacks I’ve found to them just giving me a bowl of frosting and a spoon, soooooo, yeah.
Next up is one of my favorite Disney snacks of all time, the classic Dole Whip.
Oh, sure, you have your cult classics. Your Turkey Legs. Your Mickey Bars. And they’re great. But if there’s one snack I must have every time I’m at either Disneyland (umbrellas and cherries!!!!) or Walt Disney World, it’s some variety of Dole Whip.
This creamy pineapple-flavored soft serve made news here on Disney Food Blog for a different reason last year, when we brought you word not of what it is — but what it isn’t! Seems that our favorite Disney chilly treat is now Vegan, Dairy Free, and Gluten Free!
So if you’re looking to indulge in a creamy, delicious snack, but [Read more…]

There was a time when snacks found at Disneyland and Walt Disney World were somewhat distinct.
Sure, you had your overlaps with good reason (Hello, Dole Whip deliciousness and sponsorship), but things were still unique to some extent on each coast.
These days, homogeneity of Disney snacks seems to be hitting a new high, as we see foods and beverages pop up in both locales. (Cones in WDW and DL spring to mind, as do LeFou’s Brew and Red’s Apple Freeze.) Still, there is reason to rejoice and know that not all of the character of your favorite spots is lost.
Today, we’re recalling some Disneyland snacks that are unique to those parks. These are the treats that we haven’t seen surface quite the same way Back East. And though we feel for our friends who only have the pleasure of visiting Disney World, I think it’s neat that some things remain hallmarks of the original Disney park. Let’s take a look at some of our favorites.
There are times when nothing — and I mean nothing — but a Hand-Dipped Corn Dog from Corn Dog Castle or the Corn Dog Wagon will do.
These are not your garden variety, find-’em-in-the-frozen-section corn dogs. Nope. These babies are hand dipped in this amazing sweet cornbread batter before they’re fried to a crispy, dark golden brown. And if you get crispies in your little plastic basket — score!!
And they’re huge! Definitely big enough to make a meal, they come with your choice of apple slices or potato chips on the side.
Another quintessential snack that I must have whenever I’m in Disneyland are Mickey Beignets.
The fried pillows of dough are one of my favorite treats anyway. Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen does a great job too — but c’mon. Beignets shaped like Mickey? Even. Better.
And it’s not just about the cuteness factor! They’re really delicious, too!
Another great thing about Mickey Beignets is that you can get them at both counter service and table service locations! If you’d just like to snack and stroll, check them out at the Mint Julep Bar, where you can enjoy them with a classic Disneyland Mint Julep. 🙂
If you prefer a sit-down version, you can order them at [Read more…]

EAT ALL THE PEANUT BUTTER! We just shared some of our FAVORITE Disney peanut butter treats a while back…and today we’ve got a close-up of one of the must-eat goodies on the list. (Apparently this is a de facto Peanut Butter week on DFB!)
You guys know me, and if Disney wants to sell me on a snack or treat (or hamburger) all they need to do is put some of that golden goodness in it. E.G., I dream of No Way Joses when I’m not in the parks.
But on trips to Disneyland, while I’m purchasing my Peanut Butter Sandwich, I’ve always been tempted by another PB treat beckoning to me from beside it.
On my recent trip, I decided to finally try out the Peanut Butter Heaven. Could it possibly be more “heavenly” than the sandwich?!? We shall see…
So first, this thing is enormous. For scale, look at the pic above of the case, and note that those colorful things above the peanut butter heaven and the peanut butter sandwiches are Disney caramel apples. Which we all know are as big as your head.
So with that said, the steep pricetag for a bonbon — a huge bonbon — isn’t all that shocking.
Break into it, and at first glance, it looks like a [Read more…]

Um…is it seriously possible that I haven’t already written this post?!?
You guys know how much I lurve peanut butter and anything peanut buttery, so I’m pretty surprised I haven’t done this article yet for you. BUT, it’s time to correct that error!!
As you can imagine, this is such an epic post that it will encompass my favorite peanut butter treats in both Disney World and Disneyland. If you’ve ever needed a reason to visit one or the other of the coasts, but haven’t been able to come up with one…well, you’re welcome.
Get ready to crave!
One of the newer PB treats that I’ve run across is the fantastic Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie. Find this incredible square-shaped tart at the newly renovated BoardWalk Bakery (read our complete review of the brand new space here.)
The pie has everything. Check out the combo of sweet-salty all smooshed together into a soft and crunchy texture.
Even though it’s brand new, it’s already a classic in my book.
If you haven’t made a visit to the new BoardWalk Bakery, drop what you’re doing and go. Now. (And bring me one of these.)
Oh, and I have to show you the inside…
That filling is like nothing you’ve ever had before… . Sigh.
I’ve gotta admit…this is one of my favorite sandwiches at the Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney.
While the regular sammys are great here (my favorite is the Italian Sandwich), their Brownie Frosting Sandwiches (or brownie creme sandwiches as they call them) are totally where it’s at. These come in vanilla and chocolate as well as the decadent Peanut Butter Brownie Sandwich.
Two super-moist, super-fudgy brownies (with chocolate chunks in ’em, too!) envelop a thick serving of peanut butter filling. And the peanut butter here isn’t whipped or light — it’s full-on peanut-butter-cup-filling.
Nice and dense, it’s the perfect consistency to stand up to the brownie. This one is a must-try.
Ah, such an unassuming name for such a knock-em-dead treat. The Disneyland Peanut Butter Sandwich may be the perfect peanut butter and chocolate snack.
Made with just three ingredients — peanut butter filling, a graham cracker, and milk chocolate — it sounds so crazy simple. And yet, I cannot resist [Read more…]

Anytime I’m longing for a getaway to my favorite place to enjoy some fun and fabulous food, I love hopping onto the Disney Food Blog Photo Extravaganza on Flickr! It’s a great way to make plans for my very next trip. Thanks so much to all of you who submit photos to the group!
Today, I have a hankering for sandwiches. And you know that some of the best meals between two pieces of bread (or what have you) can be found at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Whoa! It is seriously time for me to get myself back to Akershus! This Open-Faced Chicken Sandwich and Garden Vegetable Soup combo look incredible! And check out the awesome Henna in the background!

Disneyland is a treasure trove of amazing snacks and goodies, and I think it would take us list after list to mention all of my favorites. But I received a reader request for my top 5, so I knew I had to take a shot at choosing! 🙂
SO, let me add a disclaimer…I have SO MANY MORE than 5 favorite snacks at Disneyland. But if you want to get a good overview of some incredible classics, head for these. (I’m sensing a “Next Top 5 Snacks” post coming soon. ;-D)
And I want to hear YOUR favorites, too! What Disneyland goodies are your must-have eats? Share with us in the comments below so others going to Disneyland can benefit from your experience! 🙂
Along Paradise Pier sits the unassuming, Corn Dog Castle. Behind this modest kiosk awaits a snack that Disneyland guests know is a true gem — the Corn Dog!
Hand-dipped and made fresh to order, these corn dogs are an indulgence, but a worthy one! Get them in Disneyland at the Little Red Wagon, too.
Of course, if you want to go vegetarian, the Cheese Stick is [Read more…]

If you’re of the opinion that dunking something in chocolate makes everything better, I’ve got a few snacks that you really need to sample!
Here are my top five chocolate-covered snacks in Disney World and Disneyland (not necessarily in order of beloved-ness ;-)). And I can’t wait to hear yours (mostly because then I get to go find them and chomp them)!
I found this treat on one of my many Karamell-Küche visits in Epcot’s Germany! One of several chocolate-y and caramel-y treats, it’s got the benefit of three distinct tastes and textures.
The chewy, super-sweet caramel is the central feature and taste, and it’s complemented by that creamy milk or dark chocolate (the dark chocolate will give a slight bitterness to the taste, which gives even more depth to the flavor!). The sea salt on the top gives a slight crunch and a solid kapow to your taste buds, making the sweet even sweeter! If you’ve been avoiding the salty-sweet trend that’s become so popular, this might be the best way to take your first step into that taste juxtaposition! You can always brush some of the salt off if you don’t like it. 🙂
This gorgeous confection, which I simply refer to as the peanut butter sandwich, used to be sold at Disney Parks on both coasts, but lately we’ve only found it in Disneyland. (It IS in Disneyland, though…I promise!)
With peanut butter piled high on a graham cracker then enrobed in [Read more…]
