Even if El Mercado de Coronado is a new name to you, you may still be familiar with the space if you’ve ever paid a visit to Coronado Springs Resort. You see, this Resort Counter Service location used to go by the name of Pepper Market.

While the general setup of the space has remained the same, there are some other aspects that have changed even beyond the name.

So join us on a tour of El Mercado de Coronado!

Atmosphere

The unique structure of the space has remained the same, of course, with the large dining room still given a bit of the Resort’s Spanish-Colonial Mexican architecture with arches and large beams, and a high ceiling allowing plenty of light from the windows to flow through. [Read more…]

Pepper Market at Disney World’s Coronado Springs Resort Becomes El Mercado de Coronado?

Disney World’s Coronado Springs Resort is in the midst of major changes. Construction continues on the Resort’s upcoming 500 guest room Tower as well as the Villa del Lago on-the-water restaurant.

Further changes include the recent transformation of Rix Lounge into Rix Sports Bar & Grill. And now, there is another change to report. If you search on Disney World’s website or My Disney Experience app for Pepper Market — the Counter Service option for Coronado Springs Resort — your search results will come up empty.

Welcome Bob Sikon with a review of the Pepper Market’s breakfast offerings at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. After experimenting with buffet meals for breakfast and lunch, the Pepper Market has returned to a la carte menus.

Since our first visit to Walt Disney World in 1999, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort has held a special place in our family’s heart. The same can be said for Coronado’s Quick Service option, the Pepper Market.

In our many visits, we’ve seen Coronado and its Pepper Market change many times as well. It has transformed itself twice – first from an a la carte selection of an eclectic variety of cuisines to a breakfast and lunch buffet and back again. In early 2013, my wife and I got the chance to see the newest incarnation of our favorite quick service restaurant. We went for breakfast several days after it returned to its a la carte roots.

Atmosphere

One thing that hasn’t changed much is the Pepper Market’s decor. For instance, a very familiar site welcomes you to the restaurant, and we would miss it if it was gone.

News! A la Carte Menus at Pepper Market in Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

Recent changes at Pepper Market at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort have resulted in brand new lunch and dinner menus at the food court.

Over the past several months, Pepper Market has gone through a series of menu changes. Prior to December 2011, the counter service spot offered a unique cafeteria-style experience, allowing guests to select their meal from a wide array of items. In early 2012, the restaurant switched to a buffet service; and on January 1, 2013, the new a la carte menu went into effect.

While the restaurant’s popular all-day buffet (and never-ending burritos) is gone, the meal is still a Quick Service credit on the Disney Dining Plan, and the lunch and dinner menus are varied and interesting.

Guests can still expect a healthy assortment of Mexican- and American-inspired dishes, including the popular burrito with steak, rice, and beans … and a lot of delicious cheese sauce!

Top 5 Disney Dining Plan Quick-Service Values for 2012

It’s time to re-visit our Top 5 Quick-Service 2012 Disney Dining Plan* Values! Last year, our choices were great bargains because they offered good portions and quality food — and they were less attractive when paying out-of-pocket!

Since then, prices and options have changed, so it’s time to re-evaluate for 2012!

Wolfgang Puck Express at Downtown Disney

While shopping at Downtown Disney, use your quick service credit at Wolfgang Puck Express! The Pennette Chicken Alfredo with peas, bacon and parmesan at $15 is very filling (an easy meal to split)!

Here are some other smart choices:
Spaghetti & Meatballs with tomato-basil-garlic sauce and fresh herbs $16; Oven Roasted Salmon served with fennel, tomatoes, arugula, roasted potatoes and horseradish cream $18; or the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf accompanied by mashed potatoes, port wine sauce and crispy onion rings $15.

Quality and quantity make WPE the place at Downtown Disney to get the best value with your DDP credit!

Katsura Grill

We’re assuming that Katsura Grill, which opens TODAY at the Japan Pavilion in Epcot, is on the Dining Plan as a counter-service location. If we’re right, it will be a great value for a counter-service credit. (By the way, since it’s replacing the Yakitori House, we’re guessing that it will be on the Dining Plan; but we don’t know yet for sure!)

On the new menu the Sushi Combos, including the California Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll, top out at $12.99, as does the Tonosama combo, with comes with teriyaki beef, chicken, and salmon. The Teriyaki Salmon is $11.99, while the [Read more…]
