Disney is bringing back one of the most popular elements of pin trading after a long hiatus!
While a community of hardcore fans have unofficially traded Disney pins for many years, Disney Pin Trading as an official Disney-sanctioned and endorsed activity, began nearly 25 years ago. Launched with a heavy promotional push in conjunction with the Millennium Celebration, Disney Pin Trading quickly took off, becoming a phenomenon amongst fans, who gathered increasingly large and ornate collections. In addition to purchasing pins and trading with other guests, one of the core elements of the hobby was trading pins with cast members, who were company-issued lanyards or pouches of pins to exchange with guests. However, the pandemic put a stop to that.
It took a while for some things to return to the parks and hotels after Disney World closed in 2020.
In fact, we’re STILL seeing some offerings return FOUR YEARS after Disney temporarily shut down. The Grand Floridian Hotel’s 1900 Park Fare restaurant is finally reopening soon, and we’re getting a new Little Mermaid stage show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to replace Voyage of the Little Mermaid. But there’s one thing we’ve been HOPING would return to its full, pre-pandemic glory, and our wished may finally be coming true!

Pin Trading is a well-loved pastime among Disney park-goers.
While it’s been around for a while, the rules surrounding it have changed quite a bit over the past few years. After the COVID-19 closures of 2020, Cast Member lanyards were set aside in favor of pin trading boards across Disney’s parks. Lanyards have slowly started to return, but in late 2023, a new rule was put in place that could affect your experience again!
This is Halloween! Yes, we might have jumped a little ahead in talking about the holidays, but it’s still Halloween season, which means we’re still enjoying all things spooky.
That means we’re still celebrating at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Oogie Boogie Bash and we’re still checking out all the Halloween merchandise in stores and online. Well, a new Halloween pin collection is about to drop online…but do you qualify to buy it?
2023 is a BIG year for EPCOT!
The park just brought back the Figment character meet, but there’s more on the horizon! Later this year, Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana and World Celebration will fully open. On top of that, the park will be hosting the Disney100 celebrations at Disney World. There’s a lot of excitement! But now, we’ve got one more announcement to add to that list.
In our many years spent at Disney World, we’ve probably checked out THOUSANDS of souvenirs.
