Welcome back guest author Melissa M. from The Life of a Sippy Cup Mom. Melissa just returned from touring Pixar, and she was kind enough to share a backstage peek into one of the real reasons that Disney/Pixar is such a powerhouse — the Cereal Bar.
Last month, I found out that I was going to have the once in a lifetime opportunity to tour Pixar Studios in Emeryville, California to learn more about Pixar’s upcoming movie, Brave. I couldn’t wait to explore the Studios and started doing research on what I might see.
If you happen to own Toy Story 3, one of the bonus features is a short video entitled “Pixar’s Cereal Bar.”
In the video you’ll hear Pixar employees like Tia Kratter, Pete Doctor, and Andrew Stanton talking about the importance of cereal during a workday, and showing off an animated representation of how the Pixar Cereal Room fuels some of the best creative minds in the business!
The room is filled with a variety of cereals from Captain Crunch to Muesli and from Frosted Flakes to Granola. In addition to the many options of cereal, there was coffee, lots of milk, and baskets of fruit!
According to Pixar employees, this room is well-used and well-loved! They eat cereal everywhere — from the screening room to the meeting room — and even at their desks!
Here are a few of the cereal options the Pixar employees have to choose from every day: [Read more…]
Dining in Disneyland columnist Heather Sievers brings back a heartwarming and tummy-pleasing story from her recent visit to Northern California…
You know the adorable scene in Pixar’s Up where Mr. Fredricksen, Russell & Dug are having a tasty treat sitting on the curb of an ice cream shop? Well guess what? That ice cream shop is a real place!
On a recent trip to San Francisco, our good friends took us to a very special place in Oakland, California: Fentons Creamery.
Around since 1894, E.S. Fenton began his business delivering dairy products from a horse drawn wagon. Twenty-eight years later in 1922, the Fenton family opened their first soda shop and ice cream parlor. Fast forward to 2009 and they’ve got Pixar featuring them in their double Academy Award winning feature film, Up. Until our visit, I had no idea that Fentons was a “real” place.
Our visit to Fentons took place on a Sunday night. We didn’t even arrive until after 8:00 pm. In fact, on the way there, I was wondering if our friends had even checked the hours, because what ice cream shop would be [Read more…]
Another thing that’s rad from Dining in Disneyland columnist Heather Sievers!!
Just recently I was at The Candy Palace on Main Street in Disneyland when these adorable gummy kabobs caught my eye. My boys were not with me, so as a little surprise treat, I picked up 2 of the Fab 5 Disney character ones that include Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald & Goofy in that order from top to bottom.
Each character is its own piece, so there are actually 5 pieces skewered on the stick. On our next visit, I found the Pixar gummy kabobs at Marceline’s in Downtown Disney. Its characters include Woody, Buzz, Mike Wizoski, Dori & Nemo in that order from top to bottom. Looking closely at these you will notice the [Read more…]

Let me say first — Animator’s Palate was one of my favorite Disney restaurants ever. Hands down.
This place was pure F-U-N! From the decor and themeing to the interaction with Crush the turtle from Finding Nemo, I had a blast — laughing throughout the evening and truly enjoying the meal. I can’t wait to tell you about it…
Atmosphere
Those of you who have cruised on the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic cruise ships will remember that Animator’s Palate slowly transforms throughout the evening from black and white to color. However, on the Dream and the Fantasy, there’s a slightly different model in [Read more…]

So, I have clearly developed a little obsession about Cars Land. I think it’s going to be one of the coolest things to ever come to Disneyland, and it’s natural for the obsession to extend to where I’ll be eating in Cars Land. Hopefully you’ll indulge me. 😉
We recently posted a piece speculating about what would happen with the table-service restaurant slated for Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. We’d heard some rumors about a “drive-in” themed restaurant similar to Disney World’s Sci-Fi Dine-in, which might replace — or accompany — the originally proposed “Flo’s Cafe.”
These rumors were clarified with a comment on our previous post from Michael Crawford of Progress City USA, “There was a drive-in proposed, but it’s not going be a part of the first phase of this area. Its budget was diverted to other things. Instead, it’s likely that it will be added later. I asked an Imagineer if it had been cut completely or might resurface later, and he said that it’s definitely something that they still want to do.”
Driving home the point, the Disney Parks Blog recently showcased this image of Cars Land’s Route 66, featuring a very cool rendering of Flo’s Cafe, the original restaurant proposed for the new land.
So, in addition to what might be two very cool restaurants in Cars Land, we also learned that the Sally’s Motel cones will sell “cone-themed” quick service items, like “Cone on the Cob!”
Just wanted to keep you updated!
