Review: Nutella Waffle Sandwich in Magic Kingdom Park

Welcome back, friends, to one of the great hidden gems of Walt Disney World dining! Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in the Magic Kingdom offers so many unique and classic Disney treats that the entire menu likely worth ordering these days!

From funnel cakes and Chicken and Wild Rice Soup to homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches and Liberty Swirl slushes (review coming soon!), this spot is a Disney Snack Superstar these days.

However, it’s the Waffle Sandwiches that are truly putting Sleepy Hollow on the map! Included in the list are a breakfast sandwich; a ham, proscuitto, and swiss sandwich, a spicy chicken sandwich, and this outstanding Fruit and Nutella sandwich!

What Disney Food Are You Most Excited To Eat?

OK, we’ve got an interactive post today, because I need your suggestions!

I’m headed back to Disney World this Summer, and I’ve got a few treats I can’t wait to finally eat. But I’d love to hear what snacks, entrees, and other menu items you’re looking forward to eating on your next Disney visit so that I can add a few of your eagerly anticipated eats to my list! I keep hearing raves about this giant, saucy sandwich found at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments, and I’m really looking forward to trying it for myself.

I’ve had the Prosciutto waffle, but still need to try the others!

Ode to Disney Dessert Sandwiches

You know we like to follow the Disney food trends here on Disney Food Blog, and one that we’re noticing more and more are the “dessert sandwiches” that keep popping up.

Of course, Disney has seemingly always offered the beloved Carrot Cake Cookie and Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich, and now there are a few more options. Let’s take a look at some old and new favorites!

Whoopie pies

Whoopie pies (cake-like cookie sandwiches with frosting or whipped cream in the middle — borne out of the Northeastern United States) are a huge trend nationwide; and over at Sunshine Seasons in The Land, they’ve introduced a red velvet whoopie pie with your favorite mouse right on top!

The frosting inside is buttercream, not cream cheese, but we’re pretty happy with it either way!

Decked out in chocolate chips, this is a great one to try while you’re waiting for your Soarin’ fastpass to open up!

And at the Boardwalk Resort, Flying Fish Cafe offers a Trio of Concessions Sweets aptly named “Out on the Boardwalk”. A highlight of this dish is the Peanut Butter-Chocolate-Marshmallow “Moon Pie”.

The pound cake “fries” have strawberry “ketchup” to add to the look-alike whoopie pie “burger”. It’s an innovative boardwalk dessert…and delicious!

Sleepy Hollow Refreshments unveiled new waffle sandwiches in November 2011.

Guests can choose between the popular sweet and spicy chicken waffle sandwich, the nutella and fruit waffle sandwich, and this ham with prosciutto and swiss waffle sandwich. And if you’re an early riser, be sure to check out the breakfast waffle version with egg, cheese, prosciutto, and tomato!

We’ve highlighted three of the four on this blog so far, but I wanted to have a complete set! So on a recent visit to the Magic Kingdom, I headed to Liberty Square to sample one of these creations; mindful that they are only served from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m.

Atmosphere

Sleepy Hollow Refreshments is definition of “location, location, location!” With a sweet spot right in between the castle and Liberty Square’s Hall of Presidents, this is a great spot to stop for a snack as you’re headed from one land to another.

Have you ever been headed to the Magic Kingdom and found yourself saying, “I wish there was a protein-filled, portable, delicious breakfast item that I could get at the Magic Kingdom…except I don’t want to wait in a line for it”…? Hmm? I know…who hasn’t?!

You heard me right! Waffle sandwiches!!!

But before we go off on a tangent, let’s start at the beginning…

Sleepy Hollow, the small counter-service location in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Liberty Square, has long offered some of our favorite snacks, including the large Mickey-shaped waffles (one of the last places you could get these!), and the filling and delicious chicken and wild rice soup.

We’ve heard through the grapevine (Thanks, Laurie!) that the menu has changed significantly and asked one of our colleagues, Brooke Fehr from DisZine.com, to investigate during her recent WDW visit!

New Waffle Sandwiches

The new menu at Sleepy Hollow has introduced what we think will be a new Disney food classic — waffle sandwiches. And these are true waffle sandwiches — as in a giant waffle with stuff crammed into it, then folded over!

There are three new offerings: A sweet and spicy chicken waffle and a ham, prosciutto, and Swiss cheese waffle, both for $6.99; and a Nutella and fresh fruit waffle for $5.59. None of these are currently listed for a snack credit.
