It’s been nearly five months since the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser took its final voyage.

The Star Wars themed hotel permanently shut its doors on September 30th, 2023. Since then, many Disney fans have wondered what will take over the space — if anything at all. Fans paid tribute to the closed hotel by tying ribbons to the gate that used to lead to the hotel, but Cast Members soon closed the area off. Now, the passageway to the former hotel is being used for something else entirely!

Last year, we said goodbye to the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser forever.

Although the experience of being on the Starcruiser was unique, Disney decided to close it because “it didn’t perform” the way Disney had hoped.” Many blamed Disney’s marketing for the experience, while others believed the high price made it mostly unobtainable for many Star Wars fans. Well, now, the building that held the Galactic Starcruiser is just sitting empty, but we’re seeing indications that Disney isn’t quite done with it just yet.

Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel may be closed for good, but that might not be the end of the story.

The immersive, cruise-like experience was shuttered after it turned out that the cost to run the hotel was too much compared to the amount of money it was bringing in. A lucky few Star Wars fans got the opportunity to REALLY travel to a galaxy far, far away on Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

The pricey experience included a lot of out-of-this-world food, as well as an interactive roleplaying experience that put you right in the middle of your very own Star Wars story. There was also bridge training (yes, you could FLY the ship) and lightsaber training if you needed to hone your skills. Disney World closed the experience earlier this year — but there are a few clues that it might actually return.

Well, the time has come. The Star Wars Hotel is officially closed. Throughout its short run, we saw a lot of discourse about the price, value, and concept of this experience, and since the closure announcement, we’ve heard a LOT of speculation about what could replace the hotel.

Pretty much everyone we ask has their own ideas about what Disney should do with the space. Could Imagineers go BIG and gut the entire building? Could they try to save some money and make a few small changes? We still don’t know! But there’s one thing we do know: Disney has a big, empty building and a team of some of the most creative people out there, so the transformation possibilities are endless. While we wait for an official announcement about the fate of the Star Wars Hotel building, let’s talk about what we think Disney could do with the space.
