Character meet and greets recently returned to Disney World in a new, modified way that Disney is calling “sightings.”

At character sightings, guests can get one-on-one time with available characters in a socially distanced way. There are no autographs or hugs yet, but you can take photos and have a chat. Now Disney has made planning your day around character sightings easier, and here’s how!

Disney Genie launched this week, along with Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections (pay per ride) which have replaced the old FastPass+ system. So, did Genie+ help control crowds any better? Disney World’s Genie feature is officially live in the parks now.
Scanning our card to get in a Lightning Lane
Guests can buy Genie+ for $15 per ticket, per day to skip the line for most Disney World rides. But the two most popular rides in each park have a separate fee to skip the line. These rides use Individual Attraction Selection (or Pay-Per-Ride), and the fees range in price from $7 to $15 right now. So how long would the wait have to be for you to pay to skip the line? On the official launch day, we sent 5 reporters into the parks to try out Disney Genie, Genie+, and the Individual Attraction Selections. They put the new systems through some rigorous testing and we were able to find the benefits, the flaws, and learn quite a bit along the way. Here’s what happened when we tried Disney Genie for the very first time!

While the Disney Genie planning service is free, guests do have the option to purchase Genie+ and/or Individual Attraction Selections. These paid services grant guests the ability to select return times to access the Lightning Lanes (or what used to be FastPass+ lanes) of different rides. But, just how long did we actually wait for rides using these new paid FastPass+ replacement services?

On October 19th, Disney World is introducing a new planning system called Disney Genie, along with the paid replacement for FastPass+, Disney Genie+.

Disney Genie+ will cost guests $15 per ticket, per day in Disney World ($20 per ticket, per day in Disneyland Resort when it arrives later on) and will allow guests to skip the long waits for select attractions by using the Lightning Lanes. But, if you’re used to using Disney’s FastPass+ system, there are some differences with Genie+ that may surprise you!
