We’re back in the World Showcase of Epcot today with a peek at a few snacks from The Lotus Blossom Cafe and the Joy of Tea!

Atmosphere

To be honest, I often overlook the Lotus Blossom Cafe — the China Pavilion’s counter service spot — just because there are usually better options for my particular palate elsewhere. But the Joy of Tea, that adorable little stand with some of the best drinks in World Showcase, gets more love from me.

And if nothing’s going to cut it for you except Chinese food while you’re powering through the World Showcase, then it’s time to stop at these spots!

Lotus Blossom Cafe

Located just past the entrance of the Nine Dragons Restaurant in the China Pavilion, Lotus Blossom boasts modern decor and indoor/outdoor seating.

Eats
Here’s an idea of what you’ll find for a quick bite to eat at Lotus Blossom. As you can see, the menu includes pretty standard fare like Egg Rolls and Sweet and Sour Chicken.

Snack Series: Contempo Cafe Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake

Time for a great new Disney Cupcake addition to the Contempo Cafe bakery case in Disney World’s Contemporary Resort!

Our love for the Contempo’s Red Velvet Cupcake with its fantabulous cheesecake center, may be rivaled by this one!

These cupcakes are pretty large — probably shareable if you’re the sharing type — and topped with a creamy, light frosting. Not quite whipped cream frosting — there’s definitely some heft — but close.

Once we went in for our cross-section shot, I was pleased to see the center of the cupcake stuffed with peanut butter filling. Review: The Territory Lounge at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Bars and Lounges around Walt Disney World and Disneyland are often family friendly spots to grab a table-service bite or meal with no reservations needed.

You know that one of my favorites is Crew’s Cup Lounge in the Yacht Club Resort in Walt Disney World, but another fantastic spot to nosh is Territory Lounge in Wilderness Lodge.

I am a huge fan of all things food at Wilderness Lodge. Whether you’re whoopin’ it up at Whispering Canyon Cafe (go ahead…ask for ketchup!), having a refined and relaxed meal at Artist Point, or grabbing a bite to go at Roaring Forks, it’s pretty much always good.

But with a robust and interesting menu of cool pub food, The Territory Lounge is another must-try!

Review: Lefse and Waffles at Epcot’s Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe

Time to stop by one of everyone’s (well, mine at least ;-D) favorite places to grab a snack while at Epcot — Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe in the Norway Pavilion!

This place has some pretty amazing cult favorites for being so small (which it is…very, very small).

The custardy Schoolbread and the Rice Cream Pudding are some pretty incredible snacks in and of themselves, but I couldn’t wait to branch out on a recent visit. (Nope…no Aquavit this time, kids. ;-D But maybe something even better??)

Located just beyond the Stave church in Norway, you’ll smell the wonderful pastries of Kringla before you open its door.

Once you’re in, you are greeted by a host of cases that hold everything from sandwiches to pastries. (Note: Don’t try to lift the glass panels to get better pictures — you’ll get yelled at. Review: Snacks at Epcot’s Kabuki Cafe

Ya know those times when you’re just strolling through Epcot and you really need some Miso soup…like, stat?

No?

Well, if you did, this would be the place for you, my friend.

Epcot's Kabuki Cafe

Epcot’s Kabuki Cafe is a quick service kiosk offering varied menu items, from sweet to savory. Located in the Japan pavilion, it replaced the wildly popular Kaki-Gori Stand when it opened. But Kaki-Gori fans can be assured that the sweet, chilly treat is still available here.

The menu varies based on the season — when it’s busy in Walt Disney World, you’ll find a larger variety of savory food offerings. Otherwise, there are just a few items to choose from…

Review: Nine Dragons in Epcot’s China

Today, we’re heading to the Far East — or rather, just past Norway and Mexico — for lunch at Epcot’s Nine Dragons!

Are you afraid to venture inside this eatery because you’ve heard less-than-stellar reviews? So were we.

Though we did a review way back when (not bad, not great), this blog is all about second chances; so back to Nine Dragons we went! 🙂 Is it better, worse, or holding steady, you ask? Read on and we’ll explore together.

Atmosphere

When you walk into Nine Dragons, it actually feels kind of swanky since the (now long past) refurb. (Remember when it used to be all red shag carpet? No? Yeah, it probably wasn’t, but that’s what it felt like.)

The views through the front picture windows will remind you that you haven’t left Epcot behind. I love the view of the World Showcase Lagoon, and I wonder if this spot wouldn’t be bad for Illuminations viewing… anyone have experience?

This is a beautiful restaurant, and we really enjoy the surroundings here. As I mentioned, there have been some renovations, as well as some changes to the menu, which suggest that you might want to give this spot another look if you haven’t eaten here lately.

Review: Black Forest Cake Roulade at Epcot’s Sommerfest

I’ve always spied the desserts at Sommerfest in Epcot’s Germany with envy. Apple Strudel, Bavarian cheesecake, and…Black Forest Cake Roulade! For any cherry and chocolate lover (like yours truly), this was a must-try…

Atmosphere

Located just off to the side of Germany’s picturesque cobblestone town square, Sommerfest has all the look and feel of a 16th century German town. You will feel like you’ve left Florida behind as you walk among the buildings, smell the sausages and sauerkraut, and hear the polka music wafting in.

There are a few tables inside, but this is a great spot to grab a bite and eat outside al fresco style.

Eats

Sommerfest really is a hidden gem among the counter service options in World Showcase. You can choose from a couple of sausages (Bratwurst or Frankfurther), both served German-style with sauerkraut. And those lovely hand-twisted pretzels (NOT the same as the other Disney soft pretzels, mind you) is also an option.

But today was the day I was finally going to indulge in that Black Forest Cake Roulade I’d been eying for a year or so.

Review: Casey’s Corner

Time to sing a rousing chorus of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” as we head over to one of the Magic Kingdom’s most beloved counter service spots, Casey’s Corner!

This has been one of my go-to hangouts for years, and I’m excited to finally be writing an actual review of it for you!

Atmosphere

You’ll find Casey’s at the Northwest corner of Main Street — exactly where you’ll find Coke Corner in Disneyland — and the two spots are actually quite similar in appearance.

Channeling an early twentieth century baseball concession stand, you can almost hear the crack of the bat when you walk in! Really, what is there not to love about this place? It’s classic Americana and classic Disney.

I’m sure it will come as no surprise when I say that the first stop I make during every visit to the Magic Kingdom is the Main Street Confectionery. Just a whiff of the sweet smell inside lets me know that all is well in the universe.

One of my favorite pastimes is watching the cast members in the glass-walled kitchen create the specialties of the house: fudge, cake pops, chocolate-covered pretzels, candy apples, or Mickey-shaped krispie treats. I consider myself a bit of krispie artist, so the creation of these particular treats holds a special fascination for me.

I’ve stopped to watch the giant krispie Mickeys being made dozens of times. I love how they use the exact same Kellogg’s Rice Krispies and Jet-Puffed marshmallows that I use at home. And I’ve loved seeing those well-worn metal molds and wondering how many thousands of Mickeys have emerged from each one.

You can imagine my dismay when I made my usual Confectionery stop during a trip this past fall and saw — instead of the solid, practical metal Mickey pan being used to form krispie treats — a floppy red silicone pan. Quelle horreur!
