A new wave of layoffs has affected about 300 employees at Disney.
The UNITE HERE Local 737 union held a press conference on September 18th, 2024, to talk about the pay and benefits for restaurant workers who work in Disney Springs restaurant locations that are not owned by Disney.
The press conference included numerous Disney Springs workers sharing personal statements, and the release of a report done by the union about working conditions.
Many of Disney World’s 75,000 Cast Members are represented by labor unions.
In 2023, after months of stalled negotiations, a union representing the majority of Cast Members voted on and approved a new contract with Disney World. That contract Disney World’s minimum wage to $18 per hour. But not every Cast Member you encounter in Disney World is covered by the union contract. Today, one of Disney World’s largest labor unions announced an effort to expand and cover more Disney World workers.

According to a recent post on Unite Here Local 737’s Facebook page (one of the largest unions of Disney World Cast Members) another wave of callbacks for food and beverage workers has just begun!
And we’re picking out a few particularly tasty tidbits of information from the “teams” Disney World is asking to return to work!
Earlier we reported some union Cast Members from Disney World’s hotels and theme parks were being called back to resume working as early as June 14th, and know we can provide you with a few more updates!
