Wondering what the latest cupcake at Hollywood Studios is these days? Well, look no further than Counter Service spots such as Starring Rolls, ABC Commissary, Backlot Express, Pizza Planet, Rosie’s All American Cafe, and Studio Catering Co. for the Chocolate Cupcake with Banana Buttercream Icing and Caramel Drizzle!
You’ll see it by that title in the locations above, but since that’s a suuuuper long name, let’s just call it the Big Hero 6 Cupcake, since the special guest star on this one is a white chocolate Baymax topper!
By the way, he is one hearty hero. It’s almost like getting an additional chocolate lollipop with your cupcake, like with the White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake found at Animal Kingdom’s Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery (though not quite so substantial).
With a HUGE mound of banana buttercream frosting and
heaping coating of toppings (chocolate bits, caramel drizzle, and even more caramel clinging to the chocolate pieces), there really isn’t anything subtle here.
The only unassuming thing is the nicely moist chocolate cake base, sans any hidden filling.
The big question for me before digging in was the banana buttercream frosting. I thought the overall flavor combo might resemble that of the Monkey Cupcake at Old Port Royale Food Court at Caribbean Beach Resort. However, since that is a combination of banana chunks within a banana pudding center, the flavors in that one are much more natural.
The Banana Buttercream icing used here, on the other hand, was much closer to a candy-banana flavor (think less “Runts,” more “Laffy Taffy”). Since it was so, SO sweet (and made all the sweeter by the candy topping), I found the overall effect to be somewhat overwhelming, and after a few bites I had to wave the white flag of surrender.
Still, if your little one can’t resist a photo opp with their very own Baymax cupcake (I mean, he IS pretty awesome), it could be a fun one for sharing, so everyone can have a bite or two and finish it off together. But act fast… it’s only a matter of time before a Valentine’s Cupcake is likely on the way to replace this big guy!
Would you like to try the Big Hero 6 Cupcake? Please let us know with a comment!
We will be there Feb 1st. Any chance the Valentine cupcake could be out by then? We are planning to hit Pizza Planet, and I am in no way interested in banana frosting. Ick.
LOOKS SO GOOD!!!
Very sorry to hear that this has a “fake” banana flavor as opposed to natural. Real banana and chocolate is one of my favorite flavor combinations, but “fake” banana not so much. Still, I like banana runts, so it might not be a total bust. It LOOKS delicious!
I sure wouldn’t mind trying one even if I didn’t eat all of the icing!
My son would LOVE to try one of these when he visits for Star Wars Weekend (May 29 – June 1). He has a Peanut/Sesame Allergy, is this a safe cupcake like the ones at Beast’s Castle?
Thanks! Lisa
I personally do not think it taste fake in the banana
flavor. I loved the icing it was real buttercream and didnt have that preservative wang of a flavor. It had heath bits on them too. It really was not that overly sweet either like the other little cakes you get with quick service meals. I’m not much for fruit and chocolate together but it was a definite win ! I ate like 1 everyday on my trip and brought them home with me. They are so good!
Does anyone know if this is still available. Throwing my sons 4th Bday party Baymax style. Going to Hollywood Studios the following wknd and I hope they have it!
