Disney is making efforts to move in a more environmentally-friendly direction.
They have done this, for instance, by switching to paper straws in the parks and by introducing reusable shopping bags over the past several months. A more recent development, however, is that Disney has just started to add refillable water bottle stations to a few locations.
And this week we noticed a new one at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Magic Kingdom.
The new station even tells you how much waste or bottles you have helped eliminate. When we were there it was already at 961!
Attached to the refill station are two new water fountains.
These options are great not only for the environment, but they are a nice way for guests to save money in the parks as well. Though you can ask for free water at most Quick Service locations around Disney World, it’s always nice to take your own bottle or to take a few sips from the fountain instead of needing to purchase a bottle. Of course, purchasing bottles throughout the Resort is still an option as well.
What do you think about the new station? Let us know in the comments below!

Is it cold? Is it filtered? I hate water fountains (ick!) But the note filler could be good!

It’s funny to see people wondering if it’s filtered. LOL. It’s clean drinking water. Be happy. Learn to grab the garden hose and take a big drink and enjoy life.

This system is filtered to NSF standards (safe). Depending on the model it could possibly be a chilled unit.

yes yes yes!!!! I have been waiting so long for this!!!! Can you update us when more of these are installed and where? Thank you so much! This makes me so happy! Yay for filtered water!!!! I always bring my 40 oz bottle. Thank you for writing this update!

I’m happy to see those. Much easier than trying to refill from a standard fountain. I am curious though: is there a may of those anywhere? I realize it’s something new, but a map of those would be a tremendous help for those of us taking kids (or grandkids).

Those not used to FL water have a hard time with the taste of the water at Disneyworld. I wonder if the filtration helps with that? I thought we would take advantage of the free water when I was there last time but my boyfriend could not stomach the taste of the water.

Hi guys is the refill stations filled with tap water?
Kathleen says
So glad to see they are finally doing this. Hopefully they will put these throughout all the parks.

So excited about this!! Hopefully they will install more. If so please update us!

There is one in the bus waiting area at Kidani

Hi, all! Popping in with some info about the bottle fillers. They are filtered, but they do use Florida water (so it retains that quintessential Florida flavor). The water we tested was cool but not cold. I’m going to see if our on-the-ground team can put together a list of filler locations, and I’ll update with that (or write up a post). Let me know if you have any other questions!

Fantastic! This is great news and I hope to see more bottle refill stations popping up

Hi Sierra and the DFB gang! Thanks for keeping all the great blogs coming, especially the food related ones! I was in the Magic Kingdom on Wednesday, where I enjoyed the Cuban spring rolls for the second time-yum! It was 108 degrees with the humidity, and super crowded! This bottle filler would’ve come in handy, but Cosmic Ray’s was so packed that we walked in and out, so I didn’t see it.(so much for the lower attendance they were anticipating with Galaxy’s Edge coming up;) With such heat, the price of an ice cold Smartwater all of a sudden didn’t seem quite so bad! I did enjoy some free fountain water as well, the first time I’ve drank out of a fountain in years…..and I lived to talk about it! People just crack me up! My sisters and I actually had a conversation about the whole bottled water thing. I told them, “imagine years and years ago, if someone had said I bet one day people will pay for water in a bottle. The ones he was saying this to would’ve thought he’d been hitting a different kind of bottle too much!” As a child in the 80’s, the only water you saw bottled was “fancy” water, like Evian and Perrier. Now across the country companies are filtering city water, and charging a pretty penny, considering what you’re actually getting. As Americans, I think that we really do take a lot for granted. Do you realize how much cleaner and safer our “horrible” tap water is in comparison to the water offered in a large amount of the countries around the world? Open your eyes, and maybe stop being quite so haughty. Try appreciating a little more the things readily available to us that aren’t elsewhere….just some food for thought! Thanks again DFB, and keep up the great work!

So happy to see a bottle refill station!!! Hope there will be many more to come throughout WDW.
Thank you so much for the update!

How hygienic are these?
Does the mouth of the bottle come into contact with dispenser?
Don’t really fancy using if that is the case !

Just wondering….is there anything to stop people from using their resort refillable cups at these water stations? Seems that would save even more waste ! Also, is there any place where you can buy/get ice? We have camel pacs and we fill them with ice and a little water at the resort! But since we are going in August (what were we thinking?), I expect that the ice will melt rather quickly! The camel packs are great because not only do you have available cold water but they help keep your back cool…

While I appreciate the effort, I have to agree with previous comments that the taste of Florida tap water is unappealing to me. We’ve found that MK tap water or even water from soda fountains retain the funky taste. I would hope this new system would resolve that issue, but I don’t have very high hopes. I’m sorry if my opinion doesn’t sit well with others who are ok with Florida tap water, but it is my own personal opinion.
DFB Sarah says
Victoria, any quick service location that has fountain beverages will give a cup of ice water for free, so I’d expect they can give you a full cup of ice instead. (Ask for a big cup, otherwise they tend to use the small ones.) As far as I know, there wouldn’t be any reason that refillable cups wouldn’t work.
DFB Sarah says
JE, typically the bottle filler has a sensor in the ‘wall’ that can tell when a bottle is placed in front of it (either held in front or placed on the base). Water dispenses directly down in a stream from the center of the machine. There’s no need to put the mouth of the bottle to the spout. Disney’s machines do have a diagram to show how a bottle should be placed for filling.
PW says
I also hope it’s filtered. Florida water tastes like a swamp. At least the counter service water and drinks have some filtering, but MK water is the oldest at WDW and it tastes like swampy onions.

I would love an updated list of the water bottle refill stations. Thank you

Panda, coming soon!

There is a water bottle refill station in the stand-by line for Na’vi river journey. Don’t know how the water tastes.
MEL says
Can someone please confirm, yes it is filtered water!? I really hope so. We could not drink that sulfur taste water. Thanks.
