Big changes are hitting Disney World, and some fan-favorite rides are stepping out of the spotlight.
Refurbishments, re-themes, and long-term projects are all converging in May 2026, which could seriously impact your park plans if you’re not prepared. Between major construction and temporary closures, this is one of those moments where planning ahead really matters. Here’s a full breakdown of the six attractions that won’t be operating and what you need to know before your trip.
Pete’s Silly Sideshow
This one actually started earlier than expected. Pete’s Silly Sideshow closed beginning January 4th, 2026, which was bumped up by a day from the original plan.
Both sides of the meet and greet are affected, including Goofy and Donald’s “Meet Daring Disney Pals as Circus Stars” and Minnie and Daisy’s “Meet Dashing Disney Pals as Circus Stars.” The Disney World calendar currently shows no availability through June 22nd, 2026, so this closure is sticking around for a while.
The good news is you can still find these characters elsewhere in Storybook Circus, but it will take a little extra effort.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
This is easily one of the biggest closures to know about. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been down since January 6th, 2025, and it won’t reopen until May 3rd, 2026.
This isn’t just routine maintenance. Disney has been doing a full track replacement along with enhancements they’re teasing as “a little bit of new magic.” The timing also overlaps with major construction in Frontierland, including the transformation of the Rivers of America and early work on the Cars-themed Piston Peak area. On top of that, Disney has hinted at better connections to future expansions like Villains Land and Liberty Square.
If this coaster is a must-do for your group, you’ll need to plan carefully around its reopening date.
Impressions de France
Over in EPCOT, Impressions de France is temporarily closed for a routine refurbishment.
The attraction is expected to reopen on May 10th, 2026, so the downtime is relatively short compared to some of the other projects on this list. Still, if you love taking a break in the France Pavilion with this classic film, you’ll want to note the timing and adjust your schedule accordingly.
Soarin’ Around the World
Soarin’ Around the World is officially taking its final bow, at least for now. The last day to ride is May 13th, with the attraction closing on May 14th, 2026.
This closure is making way for Soarin’ Across America, which is set to debut on May 26th, 2026. The new version is part of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebration and will feature a journey across iconic American landscapes and cities.
While the core ride system, score, and even scents are expected to stick around, Disney has filed permits suggesting there could be new set elements added as well. That hints at something more than just a film swap.
Whether Soarin’ Around the World returns later is still unknown, so this might be your last chance to catch it for a while.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith officially closed for good on March 2nd, 2026, and it’s coming back with a completely new identity.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets will open on May 26th, 2026, and the transformation sounds like a full-on reimagining. The story centers around the Electric Mayhem band preparing for their biggest concert ever, with guests helping them make it to the venue in time.
Expect a refreshed queue, updated visuals outside G-Force Records, and even a brand-new Muppet animatronic.
The ride will still deliver that high-speed launch and rock concert energy, just with a totally different vibe.
Vacation Fun with Mickey and Minnie
Vacation Fun, the animated short featuring Mickey and Minnie, also became temporarily unavailable starting back on April 29th, 2026.
Disney has confirmed it will reopen later in the year, though no exact date has been shared yet. This is a smaller-scale closure compared to others on the list, but it’s still worth noting if you’re looking for a quick indoor break in Hollywood Studios.
Closures are a normal part of keeping Disney World fresh, but May 2026 is shaping up to be especially busy with major updates and long-term projects all happening at once. From a multi-year coaster overhaul to brand-new ride experiences, there’s a lot in motion right now, and it’s going to change how you tour the parks.
Make sure you’re checking calendars, adjusting priorities, and building in some flexibility so these closures don’t catch you off guard. And of course, stay tuned to DisneyFoodBlog for the latest updates, tips, and breaking news to help you plan like a pro!
